Celmac have been producing toilet seats since 1890. The UK’s leading brand of toilet seats are designed and produced to meet a wide range of design and technical specifications some of which have set British Standards. Innovative manufacturing ensures that the thermoset and thermoplastic seats are resilient and easy to install
Celmac have produced toilet seats for over 125 years and is historically renowned for the 1930’s black crescent shaped school seat with the gap in the front (Crescent) which are not dissimilar to the current Crescent range. Celmac worked with the pottery manufacturers of Stoke to initiate British Standard 1254 Type 1 with the Sonata seat and the BS1254 Type 2 with the Emerald seat which are still manufactured today and popular in the specification channel. Celmac was originally known as Robert McArd Ltd, after its founder, who left his thriving business to his daughters, Celia, Elizabeth and Lucy McArd and the company name was changed to incorporate their initials, Celmac Ltd In the 1930s
Celmac was one of the first companies to experiment with use of plastics. The early moulded plastic seats were made in Bakelite where now they are more environmental friendly using thermoset material made from urea formaldehyde. Celmac Wirquin is continuously working to improve its materials and designs to lead market trends
